2027 Teacher Training & Instructor Development
Three pathways. A shared foundation. Room to grow.
Pilates Remedy’s teacher training combines structured online learning and printed manuals with in-person training weekends at our Yuma studio (virtual option available!). You’ll study the material independently, then come together to ask questions, explore movement, practice teaching, and receive feedback.
Choose the pathway that fits your goals:
mat
Build a foundation in Pilates and develop the skills to lead thoughtful, engaging Mat sessions.
The Mat pathway introduces the Pilates method through its history, principles, and practical application. You’ll explore anatomy, foundational movement, and Mat exercises while learning to observe movement, communicate clearly, and adapt exercises to different needs and abilities.
Prerequisite: No prior experience is required; however, recent or regular participation in Mat and/or Reformer Pilates is strongly recommended.
What you’ll study:
Pilates history and principles
Anatomy and its application to movement
Movement principles and Pre-Pilates
Mat repertoire, including modifications and progressions
Magic Circle and Spine Corrector
Cueing, sequencing, and session planning
Professional responsibilities and teaching within your scope of practice
How you’ll learn:
Assigned online modules and printed manuals guide your independent study. In-person training weekends reinforce that learning through discussion, movement exploration, hands-on practice, and practice teaching with feedback. Between meetings, you’ll build experience through self-practice, group practice, observation, and practice teaching.
What’s expected:
Prepare for training weekends, participate in practical activities, complete assigned coursework, document required learning activities, and demonstrate understanding and teaching competency through program assessments.
Mat training can stand on its own or serve as your foundation for continuing into Reformer and, later, Comprehensive training.
Successful completion of this 100-hour Mat pathway—including all required coursework, assignments, assessments, and exams—meets the eligibility requirements to sit for the National Pilates Certification Program’s (NPCP) Mat certification exam. Pursuing this certification is optional; application and exam fees are separate.
mat + Reformer
Build on your Mat education and learn to use the Reformer to deliver purposeful, adaptable instruction.
The Reformer pathway continues your Pilates education through equipment-based movement and teaching. You’ll explore how spring resistance, positioning, and exercise selection influence movement while developing the skills to guide clients safely and confidently.
Prerequisite: Completion of Pilates Remedy’s Mat Teacher Training or equivalent Mat education completed elsewhere. Prior education will be reviewed to confirm readiness for this pathway.
What you’ll study:
Reformer equipment setup, spring selection, and safety
Reformer repertoire, including modifications and progressions
Application of anatomy and Pilates movement principles
Observation, clear cueing, and teaching techniques
Exercise transitions, sequencing, and session planning
Programming for individual and small-group sessions
Professional responsibilities and teaching within your scope of practice
How you’ll learn:
Online modules and printed manuals prepare you for in-person training weekends focused on movement exploration, equipment practice, discussion, and practice teaching with feedback. Between meetings, you’ll continue developing your skills through personal practice, peer practice, observation, and practice teaching.
What’s expected:
Complete assigned coursework, arrive prepared for training weekends, document required learning activities, demonstrate safe equipment use, and show the ability to plan and teach appropriate Reformer sessions through program assessments.
Reformer training builds on your completed Mat education and prepares you to continue into the Comprehensive pathway if you choose.
Successful completion of the Mat + Reformer pathway prepares you to teach in independent studios, subject to each studio’s hiring requirements. The NPCP currently offers certification in Mat and Comprehensive Pilates, with no separate Reformer certification.
Comprehensive
Expand your Mat and Reformer education to include the additional apparatuses that complete your Comprehensive training.
This continuation pathway introduces Cadillac/Tower, Chair, and Ladder Barrel work. You’ll explore how the apparatuses complement Mat and Reformer and develop your ability to select exercises and equipment based on a client’s goals, abilities, and movement needs.
Prerequisites: Completion of both Pilates Remedy’s Mat and Reformer Teacher Training, or equivalent Mat and Reformer education completed elsewhere. Prior education will be reviewed to confirm readiness for this pathway.
What you’ll study:
Cadillac/Tower repertoire
Chair repertoire
Ladder Barrel repertoire, building on prior Spine Corrector education
Apparatus setup, safe use, and exercise precautions
Modifications and progressions across apparatuses
Application of anatomy, observation, and cueing skills
Sequencing and programming that integrate Mat, Reformer, and additional apparatuses
Professional responsibilities and teaching within your scope of practice
How you’ll learn:
Structured online modules and printed manuals support your independent study. In-person training weekends bring the material into practice through hands-on apparatus work, discussion, movement exploration, and practice teaching with feedback. Self-practice, group practice, observation, and practice teaching continue between meetings.
What’s expected:
Complete assigned coursework and practical requirements, participate in scheduled training, document required learning activities, demonstrate safe apparatus use, and show the ability to design and teach purposeful sessions through program assessments.
Together with your completed Mat and Reformer education, this pathway completes the educational sequence for Pilates Remedy’s Comprehensive Teacher Training.
Successful completion of this 450-hour Comprehensive pathway—including all required coursework, assignments, assessments, and exams—meets the eligibility requirements to sit for the National Pilates Certification Program’s (NPCP) Comprehensive certification exam. Pursuing this certification is optional; application and exam fees are separate.
Independent study. Shared practice. Personal guidance.
Most coursework will be completed through online modules and printed manuals.
In-person training weekends are anticipated once or twice per month to reinforce your learning through discussion, individual and group movement practice, and teaching development.
Between training weekends, trainees will have opportunities to use the studio for self-practice, peer practice, and observation, subject to scheduling and program guidelines. Qualifying activities will contribute toward required training hours.
Planned 2027 schedule
Teacher Training is anticipated to begin in January 2027, with Mat and Reformer instruction targeted for completion by the end of June. Additional Comprehensive apparatus training is tentatively planned for Fall 2027, following a summer break.
Individual completion will depend on fulfilling all coursework, practical hours, attendance, and assessment requirements.
Final dates, tuition, and completion requirements will be shared before enrollment opens.
