We’re exploring Pilates Instructor Training opportunities at Pilates Remedy for 2027, including certification, hands-on mentorship, observation, practice teaching, and real-world studio experience.
Not all Pilates teacher training is the same
Unlike some professions, there isn't one single school or training program every Pilates instructor must attend. There are many Pilates education organizations and training pathways, ranging from large, established programs with training centers around the country to smaller independent or studio-based programs.
A nationally recognized teacher-training program, such as Balanced Body, is an established education system taught in many locations. Completing a program like this gives you a certificate of completion from an education provider that Pilates studios in many different markets are likely to recognize.
A boutique teacher-training program is smaller and more locally based. If Pilates Remedy chooses this option, the program would be customized specifically for our studio and taught through Pilates Remedy using an established teacher-training curriculum from Pilates Education Institute (PEI) as the educational foundation while incorporating our own experience, teaching methodology, practical application, and the standards we use at Pilates Remedy.
In other words, you would be enrolling in and graduating from a Pilates Remedy teacher-training program.
The advantage of this model is that the education can be highly hands-on and personalized, with certification coursework, observation, practice teaching, mentorship, feedback, and real studio experience working together rather than existing as separate pieces.
The tradeoff is name recognition. Because a boutique program is studio-based, it does not carry the same immediate name recognition as completing teacher training directly through a large, established education provider such as Balanced Body. If you later apply to teach at a studio unfamiliar with Pilates Remedy, you may need to provide more information about the scope and standards of your education.
That doesn't mean the education is less substantial, but it is an important distinction to understand—and it's one reason independent national certification can be valuable.
Mat + Reformer vs. Comprehensive Training
You'll also hear different terms describing how much of the Pilates system an instructor has been trained to teach.
A Mat + Reformer program focuses primarily on Pilates Mat work and the Reformer. This can be an excellent path for someone whose goal is primarily teaching group Mat and/or Reformer classes and who doesn't necessarily need training on the full range of traditional Pilates apparatus.
A Comprehensive program goes considerably further. Comprehensive education typically includes Mat, Reformer, Chair, Cadillac/Tower, Barrels, common Pilates props, modifications, programming, and working with different bodies and needs.
Comprehensive training requires substantially more education, practice, time, and financial investment, but it also provides a much broader understanding of the Pilates system. It is particularly valuable for instructors who eventually want to teach private clients, work with a wider variety of client needs, pursue advanced Pilates education, or make Pilates instruction a significant part of their career.
One isn't automatically "better" than the other. They prepare instructors for different scopes of teaching.
And then there's National Certification
Completing a Pilates teacher-training program and becoming nationally certified are two separate accomplishments.
Your teacher-training program provides your Pilates education and awards a Certificate of Completion when you've successfully completed its requirements.
After completing qualifying Comprehensive Pilates education, an instructor can choose to sit for the National Pilates Certification Program (NPCP) exam. An instructor who meets the eligibility requirements and passes that independent exam earns the Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) credential.
Why does that matter?
It provides an independent measure of professional competency beyond simply completing the program that trained you. Your teacher-training program teaches and evaluates you; national certification adds an outside standard demonstrating that you've met broader professional expectations.
For someone planning to build a long-term career in Pilates—particularly someone who may eventually teach outside Pilates Remedy, relocate, work extensively with private clients, or pursue advanced professional opportunities—we believe having access to that pathway is valuable.
If Pilates Remedy offers the boutique Comprehensive program, the curriculum we would use is designed to cover the educational content needed to prepare graduates for the NPCP National Pilates Certification Exam. Graduates would receive their Pilates Remedy teacher-training Certificate of Completion and could then independently pursue the NCPT credential.
So, what are we considering for 2027?
We’re currently looking at three possible paths. Each has genuine advantages—and each has tradeoffs.
OPTION 1 — Outside Certification + Pilates Remedy Mentorship
You would independently enroll in an established Pilates certification program, likely something such as Balanced Body in Phoenix, and complete your formal teacher training through that organization.
At the same time, you could participate in Pilates Remedy's in-studio mentorship program, which currently includes:
Unlimited observation hours of the owner’s classes and private sessions, plus other instructors with permission
Monthly 60–90 minute individual mentorship meeting
Monthly 45-minute private Pilates session with me
Monthly 2–3 hour small-group study session
Progressive teaching-practice opportunities with feedback
Anatomy + Movement Study Guide
Ongoing email/text support
Certification exam preparation support
A community of fellow developing instructors
Best fit: Someone who values completing their education through a widely recognized Pilates education provider while still wanting local, hands-on mentorship and teaching experience.
Things to consider: This path would likely require travel for training, plus additional travel-related expenses, and your formal certification coursework and Pilates Remedy mentorship would be two separate programs. That can provide access to two different educational perspectives, but it may also make the overall experience less integrated.
Pilates Remedy mentorship is currently planned at $150/month, separate from the cost of your chosen certification program.
OPTION 2 — Pilates Remedy Teacher Training + Mentorship
We would teach a Pilates Remedy teacher-training program using PEI's curriculum as the educational foundation and customizing it with our own teaching experience, methodology, practical application, and Pilates Remedy's standards.
Depending on interest, this would be offered as either Mat + Reformer OR Comprehensive training rather than running both programs simultaneously.
The Comprehensive curriculum would include Anatomy, Mat, Magic Circle, Reformer, Spine Corrector, Chair, Ladder Barrel, and Cadillac/Tower, along with the supporting educational material, quizzes, exams, observation, practice and teaching requirements.
Training, observation, practice teaching, study groups, individual mentorship, and hands-on studio experience would be designed to work together as one coordinated program.
Best fit: Someone who values a highly personalized, hands-on learning environment and wants their coursework, mentorship, practice teaching, and studio experience integrated into one training experience.
Things to consider: Because the Certificate of Completion would come from Pilates Remedy rather than a large national education brand, it would not have the same immediate name recognition as a Balanced Body or similar certificate. If you eventually teach elsewhere, you may need to explain the scope of your training to studios unfamiliar with our program.
For Comprehensive graduates, pursuing the independent NCPT credential would provide an additional nationally recognized professional credential beyond the Pilates Remedy Certificate of Completion.
Pricing has not yet been established. For context, established Comprehensive Pilates teacher-training programs, such as Balanced Body, commonly represent an investment of around $5,500 or more.
OPTION 3 — Online Certification + Pilates Remedy Mentorship
Participants would independently enroll in the same online certification program through NEU Pilates and agree to progress through the coursework at the same pace.
NEU's most complete program currently costs approximately $2,700 and includes Anatomy, Mat, Reformer, Chair, Springboard, and Fascia coursework (note: this is not considered Comprehensive).
We would then pair that online education with Pilates Remedy's in-studio mentorship program, giving participants hands-on equipment time, observation, individual guidance, teaching experience, study groups, feedback, and a local learning community.
Best fit: Someone who values the flexibility and lower initial cost of online education but still wants structured, in-person mentorship and practical teaching experience.
Things to consider: The formal certification coursework is primarily online and therefore requires more self-directed learning. The apparatus education also differs from a traditional Comprehensive program and does not include the same breadth of equipment as the Pilates Remedy Comprehensive option. Certification and mentorship would also remain two separate programs with separate costs.
NEU tuition is currently approximately $2,700, and Pilates Remedy mentorship is currently planned at $150/month.
What happens next?
Our hope is to choose a direction soon enough that, if there is sufficient interest, we can plan for a January 2027 start and work toward completing training within approximately one year.
